Unlock the secrets to create perfect volume lash fans

Volume lash fans – things you deal with every day as a lash artist. It’s like real magic that they can add a fluffy and voluminous effect to eyelashes and really make our eyes pop without much effort – but as long as the volume fans you create are perfect.

1. What makes a perfect volume lash fans?

Making a volume fan is considered successful when it is symmetrical and suitable.

Symmetrical

It’s simply that the lash strands in the fan are equally spaced and angled. It’s also noteworthy that the fan base should make up ⅓ of the whole fan body.

Suitable

Unlike classic lashes, a volume fan contains several individual lashes that stick together and are adhered to one natural lash only, and if it’s not created properly, poor retention is unavoidable.

First, know your client’s natural lashes. Find out if your client’s lashes are weak or strong before deciding how many extenions on a volume fan they can accommodate (2D, 5D, or even 9D). Are their lashes sparse or dense? A sparse lash set is better suited with wide lash fans or ones with a flat base, in contrast, if your client is fortunately blessed with a lot of lashes, narrow or thin base fans would be a wiser choice.

2. How to make a volume lash fans?

Perfection is hard to achieve, yet creating perfect volume lash fans is not as hard as you think. Practice these six techniques to make a volume fan, and you’ll find that perfection is just a piece of cake.

Lonely fan/ Off the strip technique/method

Lonely fan is a go-to method for every lash artist who is just taking their first steps in the lash world.

Step 1: Use your tweezer to pick up the number of lashes that you want and separate them from the rest. Then place them again on the strip, away from other lashes.

Step 2: Carefully roll the tips over the base of the lashes to spread them open first, then adjust the lashes to achieve the space between lashes that you desire.

Step 3: Lift up the fan and dip its base into the lash glue. This method is quite easy, therefore, if you are a newbie, practice this technique before challenging yourself with more advanced techniques.

Here is how Paris Lash Academy makes fans using lonely fan method, hoping it will make you easier to learn and practice.

Wiggle fanning technique/method

Step 1: Grab the number of lashes you want to make a fan and carefully pull them forward. Don’t take them up completely, but keep the bottom of the lashes sticking to the strip.

Step 2: While lightly gripping the bunch of lashes, roll slightly to the side and back – or wiggle to make the lashes fan out symmetrically

Step 3: Grasp the fan base firmly and pick it up, dip it into glue, and adhere it to the natural lash.

Step 1: Pull the lashes halfway forward

Step 2: Instead of wiggling, use your tweezer to roll the lashes to the side and adjust the angle and space between the lashes until they look equal and a symmetrical fan is achieved

Step 3: Grip the fan base tightly (so that it is not twisted), then dip the tapered base into the adhesive. And we are done!

Sticky dot fanning technique/method

Step 1: Grab the desired number of lashes with a tweezer. Try to place the tweezer close to the lash bases.

Step 2: Place the lash bunch on the outer edge of a sticky dot (which you can easily purchase online), press the base down firmly, and release. Immediately, you have a lash fan within a second!

Step 3: Use the tweezer to adjust the fan shape as you want, pull it up, and a perfect fan is ready for application!

Pinching fanning technique/method

The pinching method mainly focuses on the lash base. It’s quite an advanced technique, as if not done carefully, the base can easily get twisted.

Step 1: Use the tweezer to take the lashes from the strip and hold them at the base firmly with your thumb and forefinger.

Step 2: Grip the lashes with your tweezer, then use your thumb and forefinger to pinch the base. It’s important to make sure that your fingers pinch but not roll the base, or else these lashes will become such a mess. You can pinch the base several times until you find the fan is perfect.

Step 3: Tightly grasp the tweezer and dip the fan base into the glue. This one is quite a tricky method and best suits fro creation of mega volume lash fans.

Step 1: Grab a chunk of lashes, bend your tweezer backward, and take them off the strip. Make sure the bottom of the lashes are as aligned as possible.

Step 2: Dip the base into glue and gently release the pressure on the tweezer to let the lashes fan out. You can tap the lash base at the glue tray to remove the excessive glue as well as make the fan open more perfectly.

This technique is the perfect option for those who want to create mega volume lash fans.
